AOC - Active Optical Cables

Active Optical Cables (AOC) are a variant to DAC cables. The AOC is an optical cable which is connected directly into an SFP+ housing at both sides. The transceiver modules convert the electrical signal into an optical signal at one side and back to its original at the other side. A major advantage of AOC cables over DAC cables is the distance that can be bridged. In general DAC cables are used for lengths up to 10m, while AOC cables are used with lengths up to 50m. Another reason  AOC cables might be more beneficial to you is the even lower latency provided by AOC cables.
